1. How long does gate installation take?

Most single-gate installations are completed within half a day to a full day. Double driveway gate installations, or those requiring new concrete posts, typically take a full day. We’ll give you a clear timeframe when we visit your property for the initial site assessment, so you can plan accordingly with minimal disruption.

2. Do I need planning permission to install a gate in the UK?

In most cases, planning permission is not required for a residential gate. However, if your gate will be over 1 metre high and positioned adjacent to a public highway or footpath, or over 2 metres high in any location, you may need to apply. Listed buildings and properties in conservation areas may also have additional restrictions. We’re happy to advise on this during your free consultation, and we recommend checking with your local authority if you’re unsure.

3. How long will my new wooden gate last?

With proper care, a hardwood gate crafted from Iroko can last 30 years or more. Our softwood gates, made from pressure-treated Scandinavian Redwood, typically have a lifespan of 15–20 years when maintained regularly. We provide full aftercare guidance after every installation to help you get the most from your investment.

4. Can gates be installed on a sloped driveway?

Yes, this is a common request, and our experienced fitters are well-used to working on uneven or sloped ground. We’ll assess the gradient during our site visit and advise on the best approach, whether that’s a raked gate that follows the slope or a stepped design that maintains a level top rail. There may be a small additional charge for more complex groundwork.

5. Will gate installation add value to my property?

Yes. A well-designed, professionally installed wooden gate enhances curb appeal and can add around 5–10% to your property’s market value, according to industry estimates.
